The Workshops
"An Introduction to Story and Voice..."
A Four-Workshop Series
An Introduction to Story and Voice is a gentle, exploratory series of four standalone workshops designed to help you reconnect with writing, language, and your own voice — without pressure, performance, or the need to “get it right”.
Rather than offering a comprehensive course or a promise of mastery, this series is about opening doors. Each workshop explores a different way into writing and self-expression, inviting curiosity, confidence, and permission to begin where you are.
Together, the four workshops form a connected whole — moving from craft, to meaning, to awareness, to courage — while each one can also be attended independently.

1. How to Write a Great Short Story

This workshop explores the fundamentals of short story writing: what a short story really is, where ideas come from, and how to shape a single moment into a satisfying piece of fiction. It’s designed to demystify short stories and make them feel approachable — especially for people who want to try fiction but don’t know where to begin. You’ll learn how focus, structure, and emotional clarity matter more than confidence or experience.
2. How to Write a Memoir

Memoir is not about telling your whole life story — it’s about choosing meaning.
This workshop looks at how memoir works, how memory becomes story, and how to begin writing from lived experience without feeling exposed or overwhelmed. It explores truth, perspective, and voice, offering a thoughtful introduction to life writing for those drawn to telling real stories with care.

3. Mindful Language That Resonates

The words we choose don’t just convey meaning — they shape how our message is received. This workshop focuses on mindfulness in language, exploring how subtle shifts in wording can invite engagement, reduce defensiveness, and build trust.
It’s relevant for writers, speakers, mentors, podcasters, and anyone who communicates with others and wants their words to land more effectively.

4. What Stops Us from Using Our Voices?

This final workshop brings the series together by looking at what often gets in the way of writing and speaking: fear, self-doubt, habit, and learned silence.

Rather than pushing for confidence or boldness, it reframes courage as something that grows through small acts of expression. The focus is on understanding, permission, and gentle ways to begin using your voice more fully — on the page and beyond.

Why These Workshops Belong Together
Each workshop stands alone, but together they explore the full landscape of story and voice:
-
craft (how stories work)
-
meaning (why we tell them)
-
language awareness (how words land)
-
courage (what helps us speak and write at all)
They are designed as entry points, not endpoints — offering space to explore, reflect, and begin, rather than demanding commitment or expertise.
Whether you attend one workshop or all four, the invitation is the same:
to meet your own voice with curiosity, care, and growing confidence.
